Pirates of Penzance

As part of our 2026 Summer of Outdoor Theatre programme, we are delighted to welcome to Stubbings the talented Illyria with their performance of Pirates of Penzance.
Frederick, apprenticed to Pirates as a child, is indentured to the Pirate King until his 21st birthday. The Pirate King learns that Frederick was born in a leap year on 29th February, checks the contract’s small print – and realises he has only had four birthdays. Will Frederick be forced to serve the pirates until he is 84? And will his sweetheart, Mabel, wait for him that long?
Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular operetta is performed by a 6-strong cast of actor/singers with a fully orchestrated accompaniment. Join Illyria for an evening of glittering wit, razor sharp satire and glorious music.
Running time: 120-minutes (approx.), including a 20-minute interval.
Recommended for all ages.

Pirates of Penzance will be held on the main lawn of Stubbings House. This is an Outdoor Theatre performance. Please bring a chair or picnic rug and prepare to be entertained and transported.
Sweet treats, hot & cold drinks will be available to purchase from the Café.
Sausage Roll meal deals will also be offered on a pre-order basis through the ticketing system—please place your order in advance and collect your meal from the Café before the start of the performance. Please note any allergens you have when booking your ticket.
Please do not bring any alcoholic beverages to site.
Times: The gates will open to the main lawn at 6pm, with the play commencing at 7pm.
